Passionate to Create Change Through Awareness and Action

Change only happens when people see a problem and decide, or are persuaded, to act.

At the Narcissistic Abuse Network, we are committed to:

  • increasing awareness of narcissists and narcissism,
  • highlighting the chaos, dysfunction and misery caused by narcissists,
  • providing access to help and support for victims of narcissistic/emotional abuse,
  • creating change through an expanding community of people, at a local, national and international level.

Why the Narcissistic Abuse Network is Necessary

When a society embraces and promotes narcissistic norms, we see popularity, power, status, possessions and entitlement used to measure of our value. Consumerism and individualism take priority over connection, relationship and trust. High-profile figures justify their moral and social bankruptcy by claiming that truth, fairness and moral conscience are outdated or irrelevant because 'we live in the post-truth age.' Corruption operates in plain view of people who feel impotent to challenge and prevent its spread.

Life consists of competing opposites: agree or hate; black or white; in-crowd or outcast. Influence becomes more important than expertise, opinion matters more than knowledge, superficial and short-term beat robust and long-term. Any who achieve this goal are then publicly vilified, even destroyed by the jealousy of former admirers or supporters.

THIS IS NARCISSISM AT ITS MOST NAKED. ‘I’ and ‘me’ triumph over ‘we’ and ‘us.’

Does this sound familiar?

Abuse is rife in such societies, although most remains hidden because people with strong narcissistic traits hide their abusive behaviour in plain sight using deceit, lies and by playing the victim.

Male and female victims face significant barriers and shaming if they try to report it:

Male victims are dismissed, ignored or mocked, by family, friends and professionals alike if they dare to suggest abuse by a female. In the UK, they face the additional barrier that abuse law is under women and children's law.

Female victims face societal norms that encourage ‘boys to be boys’ whilst sexualising women and blaming them for ‘inviting abuse’ when it happens. The professionals responsible for their welfare and protection often label female victims as hysterical, overly-sensitive, psycho or mentally ill.

Birth of the Narcissistic Abuse Network

Our Director, Stuart Wood had been aware of emotional abuse for more than 30 years, but nothing prepared him for what he saw and experienced whilst supporting friends and family out of toxic relationships. As a result, he became committed to awakening others to the horrific reality of narcissism and emotional abuse.

Whilst walking alongside victims as they broke free from their abuser, Stuart researched best practice and strategies to counteract abuse and enable a safe escape. He also discovered many others who had suffered through destructive, narcissistic relationships. The result was Escaping The Void (How to Support Victims Out of Emotionally Abusive Relationships), a handbook for understanding emotional abuse, survival, escape and recovery,

From this crucible of shared pain and injustice, the Narcissistic Abuse Network was born.

Mission of the Narcissistic Abuse Network

The Narcissistic Abuse Network is passionate to create change through awareness and action, in our own lifetime and beyond, by:

  • creating a hub where people can access information and professional help to identify and escape from the void of narcissistic relationships,
  • increasing awareness of narcissism and narcissistic abuse through workshops, educational talks and public speaking in business, communities, organisations and charities,
  • promoting and presenting the powerful handbook, Escaping The Void (How to support victims out of emotionally abusive relationships).

This website will continue to evolve and grow to include:

  • safe space, network and a forum for people experiencing narcissistic abuse, especially those who are isolated,
  • a forum where professionals can co-operate and share best practice across disciplines.
  • a united voice to lobby for change in local, national and international arenas.

In the words of Chris Anderson, Head of TED,
The future is not yet written. We are in the process of writing it.
